The solid legs of the Atlas table, named after the mythical Titan condemned to hold the sky on his shoulders, stand strong as support for the spacious tabletop. For Atlas, John Astbury has drawn inspiration from various influences in the history of architecture. There are references to porticoes and colonnades, but Atlas is primarily based on the archetypal post-and-lintel construction. Combined with simple geometry, the circle and the square, these primary archetypes together create the character and composition of the table. The Atlas dining table asserts its place in the dining room with its solid and well-crafted expression and enchants everyone, from small to large groups, who gather around it.
